You might have noticed that I’ve been unusually quiet the last month or so. I’m not normally one to overshare when it comes to personal matters, but there’s a good reason behind letting you know where I’ve been.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to donate a kidney to a friend of mine a couple of weeks ago. The whole experience has been surreal. Just the fact that it’s medically possible seems like some sort of science fiction shenanigans. The bottom line is my recovery is going great, and Righty is working like a champ in his new home. My friend’s creatinine numbers, which were 16 times higher than they should be prior to surgery, are now normal. Miraculous.
I’m mentioning this to you because this whole process made me aware of how many people are in need of living donors. There’s a good chance you’ll know somebody who could use a spare kidney, or you could possibly need one yourself. If you didn’t already, you now know somebody who has been through the process. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and use me as a resource. I’m more than happy to share my experience and answer any questions.
